Ahead of the launch of Sonic's mainnet, the first SVM-based blockchain, its foundation revealed details of its economic tokens and revealed one last chance to become eligible for an upcoming airdrop. SONIC is set up to power a number of facilities within the Sonic ecosystem.

SONIC token provided by Sonic Foundation as mainnet approaches

According to an official statement of Sonic Foundation360 million SONIC tokens will be released into circulation immediately after TGE. The token starts with a net supply of 2.4 billion SONIC. Fifty-seven percent of SONIC will be allocated to the Sonic SVM community, including tokens allocated for ecosystem and community development, initial claims, and Sonic HyperGrid incentives.

The Ecosystem and Community Development Programs provide grants to game studios and dApp developers who build within the Sonic SVM ecosystem. Seven percent of SONIC is allocated to the exclusive airdrop, rewarding top contributors from the Sonic AVS delegation, Sonic Odyssey, SonicX, HyperFuse Observer node holders and early supporters of Mirror World and the World Store.

Twenty percent of SONIC will be distributed equally between verification node operators and monitoring node operators to contribute to network security.

Last but not least, 8% of SONIC tokens will be allocated to early backers who supported Sonic's vision in the early stages, providing seed funding and helping to form the foundation of the project. The tokens will undergo a 12-month ramp, followed by a 24-month linear vesting schedule.

SONIC airdrop: Last call for applicants before January 6, 2025

The SONIC token creation event is scheduled to take place on January 7, 2025. The token will be available on CEXes and DEXes, and the full list is expected to be shared on the Sonic Foundation's social media pages.

SONIC's initial claim snapshot was completed on December 31, 2024. Seven percent of SONIC's total dollar supply was allocated to the initial claim. The eligibility checker will go live on January 3.

Meanwhile, the team revealed that there is a chance to qualify for SONIC's air distribution process until January 6. Users are invited to log in to SonicX via TikTok to qualify for the upcoming token distribution.
