Cannes supports cryptocurrency payments for local businesses


Cannes Mayor David Lesnard has revealed plans to train local merchants to accept cryptocurrency payments as the city prepares to host an Ethereum community conference later this year.

In preparation for the eighth edition of EthCC, scheduled from June 30 to July 3, 2025, the city government will organize training courses for merchants to integrate cryptocurrency payment systems.

The first session, scheduled for February 4 at the Palace of Festivals and Congresses, will cover key areas such as the technical, legal, accounting and tax implications of the adoption of cryptocurrencies.

A “crypto-friendly” business map will also be developed, providing EthCC attendees and other tourists with a guide to businesses in Cannes that accept cryptocurrencies.

Preparing for EthCC

EthCC, the largest annual Ethereum event in Europe, is expected to attract more than 6,500 registered participants, with total attendance expected to exceed 10,000. Lesnard sees the cryptocurrency initiative as an opportunity for local companies to tap into a global, tech-savvy audience while enhancing Cannes' reputation as a destination.
