David Lynch, the American director beloved for his dark, surreal and original works, died this week at the age of 78. experimentalLynch has always been open to everything new, even when it comes to blockchain technology.

A decade ago, in 2011, Lynch — at Interpol's request — created a series of visuals of the band's performance at Coachella. Those images became a short five-minute animated film "Man touched the red button." Which accompanied Interpol's new song at the time, "Adwaa".

For the NFT series, this collaboration was revisited to create several immersive, psychedelic-feeling clips of “Red Button Man” housed in rusty TV screens — and uploaded to the Ethereum blockchain forever.

"To be honest, Interpol is obsessed with David Lynch, and we're thrilled to be able to align our name with his in an artistic forum," Paul Banks, the band's frontman, said in a statement at the time. “With all humility, we believe that as digital artifacts continue to emerge, they are worth preserving in the infinite digital world.”

When the collection was released in late October 2021, it immediately struck a chord with collectors. One of the NFTs, which included the video's title sequence, sold out within hours 20.7 Ethereum- An amount of more than $82,000 at the time.

Lynch was not a particular evangelist for cryptocurrencies or digital art. He never worked with blockchain technology again.
