The FBI has uncovered a surreal plot to kidnap a Miami jeweler and steal $2 million in cryptocurrency.
According to the court file, A confidential source had informed law enforcement authorities about the planned kidnapping.
They claimed that a man named "Jack" had assembled a group that was planning an attack on the morning of January 13.
The gang leader started a chat on Telegram to arrange the kidnapping, during which he allegedly referred to group members as “goons”.
Screenshots were shared that appear to show the victim, who works at the Seybold Jewelers building, confirming that he has a large amount of cryptocurrencies in his possession and is willing to exchange them for cash.
According to FBI Special Agent Ryan Dreibelbeis, "Jack" wrote letters about how the kidnapping was carried out and said, "I told them not to hurt him or demonize him. We just need to catch him."
Other members of the group revealed that they would be armed with Mac-10 and .223 assault rifles on the day of the kidnapping.
The confidential source revealed that they were asked to provide the car that would be used in the kidnapping. It was then agreed that a “tall black man” named “D” would deliver one.
But before the Chevy Tahoe was delivered, law enforcement bugged the SUV with GPS recording and tracking devices. An undercover agent then pretends to be "D" so he can meet one of the suspects in person.
Officers confronted the four men involved in the plot when they met on the day of the kidnapping.
Three of them tried to escape, but were quickly arrested, while another who fled was arrested in a nearby shop.
Recorded calls between them appear to indicate they planned to give the victim a “good hit” to the head, but did not want to cause brain damage.
Evan Puckett, Trayvon (Anthony Neal), Zachary Briggs, and Aaron Hammond are all charged with conspiracy to kidnap and attempted kidnapping.
They are being held in jail without bail and are scheduled to appear in court in Florida on Tuesday.
