Freename launches a .etherlink domain for a web3 identity

Freename, a multi-chain web3 namespace platform, has announced the launch of .etherlink, a new top-level domain.

The launch follows the integration of the ICANN-certified registrar with the Layer 2 Etherlink network, Freename said in a press release shared with crypto.news on January 15. Etherlink, powered by Tezos smart clusters, acts as a permissionless L2 solution.

The introduction of .etherlink represents another major development in the web3 space, with the new TLD marking a major milestone in simplifying the use of cryptocurrencies and driving their global adoption. Users can leverage the integration to create and manage their web3 identities and crypto assets.

Unstoppable domains and D3 It is among the platforms that have launched Web 3-focused domain names in recent months.

Freename will use Etherlink's domain name solution to connect web2 and web3, with the token enabling it to bring web2 domains into the Etherlink network.

“Cross-chain users need customized solutions for digital identity. In a cross-chain world, interoperability is essential. Through the integration of Etherlink and the launch of the .etherlink TLD, we are enabling the Etherlink and Tezos communities to secure Dynamic identities that evolve with their Web3 journey.”

Freename's integration with Etherlink follows several other important developments involving the domain name platform. In April 2023, Freename partnered with EDA to launch the new web3 website builder.

Earlier, in January 2023, Freename was launched foot Web3 WHOIS, the first WHOIS service for web3 domains. Web3 WHOIS offers a domain explorer capable of querying cryptocurrency wallets, domains, and TLDs across platforms such as Unstoppable Domains, Ethereum Name Service Registry, and Freename.
