Hamster Kombat, once one of Telegram's top games, is turning to blockchain development on TON after suffering a decline in popularity.
Hamster KombatClick-to-earn game based on... cableis showing signs of deepening its blockchain roots, this time launching a layer 2 network on top of the open network, or just TON (Tons). This decision comes after the community voted in favor of developing a custom mesh seemingly designed to enhance the Hamster Kombat code's HMSTR (Hamster) Use cases.
Layer 2 networks on TON
Layer 2 networks are built on top of existing blockchains to improve transaction speeds and scalability. while Ethereum Already hosting several well-known Layer 2 networks, such as Coinbase's Base or Blast, TON is still in the early stages of exploring similar technologies.
As of press time, there are no indications that TON is hosting any operational Layer 2 network. However, the TON ecosystem appears to be working on compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine protocols. The strategy may aim to attract liquidity and decentralized application developers from Ethereum to integrate them into the TON infrastructure.
For example, in July, another project, called TON Applications Chain, was implemented. Announce It plans to develop a layer 2 network on TON. However, TAC aims to leverage Polygon's Layer 2 technology to achieve this goal.
Hamster State Kombat
The so-called “Hamster Blockchain” comes from a vote within the Hamster DAO. The proposal proposes building a network “where the HMSTR token will be used for gas fees,” according to the proposal a description.
The vote met the required quorum of 1 billion HMSTR tokens on Friday, December 27, with over 1.18 billion HMSTR tokens in favor and just over 104,000 tokens against. However, it appears that more than 60% of the total votes cast for the initiative – amounting to approximately 737.3 million HMSTR tokens – were It is sent by one addressdesignated as UQDz…hUCu.
Launched in March, Hamster Kombat quickly gained huge popularity, amassing millions of users within five months.
According to the Hamster Kombat Team, 300 million people have signed up to play the game. Of these, just under half of the players – 131 million in total – are eligible for HMSTR tokens. Meanwhile, more than 2.3 million players were labeled as cheaters and excluded from the token distribution.
The game's integration with Telegram received a boost from the messaging app's founder, Pavel Durov, who He praised Launching the game on TON as a way to bring the benefits of blockchain to millions.
Unclear roadmap
However, for Hamster Kombat, things went very quickly after its code airdrop, as it failed to meet players' financial expectations. By early November, the user base had dropped by 86%, falling from 300 million to about 41 million monthly active players, per month. Data From IntoTheBlock.
Several factors may have contributed to this decline:
- Code performance: The value of the HMSTR token dropped by more than 50% shortly after its launch, which could lead to waning player interest and trust. As of press time, the price of the HMSTR token is $0.003006, representing a 70% decline from its all-time high, which was reached at the time of the airdrop in late September. The coin's market capitalization, which previously exceeded $552 million, now stands at $194.57 million, showing a significant decline of about 65% in just three months since the airdrop.
- a race: New games like Catizen, TapSwap, Paws Mini App, and Bloom have joined the tap-to-earn trend, drawing attention away from Hamster Kombat.
- Community feelings: as crypto.news I mentioned earlier,The community expressed dissatisfaction with the game's development and unmet expectations, which may contribute to low user engagement.
In an attempt to solve these issues, the Hamster Kombat development team appears to be shifting the community's focus towards creating a second layer network on TON. However, many important details remain unclear. For example, there is no information yet about who will develop the network, what technology stack will be used, or more importantly, who will pay for the ambitious plan.
The missing details in the initiative's description leave many questions unanswered. Furthermore, the proposed layer 2 network wasn't mentioned in the Hamster Kombat roadmap at all, which apparently hasn't been updated since September.
