Phantom, one of the most popular non-custodial wallets of the Solana (SOL) ecosystem, is making things clear about its alleged airdrop ambitions. Instead of releasing a governance token and airdrops, the protocol will still focus on enhancing its social functions and improving the user experience.
Now it's official: There's no Phantom Code in the plans, says the team
Phantom, a major non-custodial multi-coin wallet, denies rumors of a token launch and community airdrop. The potential airdrop is allegedly related to the Phantom's all-new social detection functionality, the team reported in X.
We're excited to follow users on Phantom!
It's a big step for us towards making cryptocurrencies more private and easier to use. By simplifying how you share and discover with friends, we aim to dramatically improve how users find new icons and apps.

According to the statement posted on the Phantom account, which has nearly 740,000 followers, the team noted speculation about an airdrop linked to the new social detection module. The SocialFi function allows Phantom clients to follow each other and socialize while trading cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The tool is set to make cryptocurrency experiences more private and easier to use. Instead of launching an airdrop, the team will focus on enhancing social discovery on Phantom and making it relevant for every new and existing user.
This in turn will simplify the way to find new cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications (dApps) while using Phantom.
As previously covered by U.Today, Phantom Integrated Sui (SUI) supported the blockchain a month ago. The movement-based blockchain is now accessible to 7 million Phantom users.
The Solana community is preparing for two major airdrops in January 2025
Despite Phantom's decision to skip the token launch and airdrop, Solanians will still be able to participate in two massive airdrop campaigns this month.
Sonic, Solana's social layer and social platform for TikTok users joining Web3, continues its activity campaigns on January 6. Eligible enthusiasts will share 7% of all SONIC emissions, the team announced on December 31.
An overview shot has already been taken while some additional activities are running.
Also, Jupiter (JUP), the dominant Solana DeFi protocol, is approaching a highly anticipated governance token airdrop. The protocol is expected to distribute 700 million pounds in the coming weeks.
