Report: Solana is the best choice for 70% of AI projects

AI assistants are choosing Solana more than ever, attracted by its ability to scale seamlessly and keep costs low.

According to a recent report by Franklin Templeton, 70% of AI-powered virtual assistants, known as AI agents, choose to work on Solana (Sol) Blockchain. This preference is largely due to Solana's ability to handle large volumes of transactions efficiently and at lower costs.

These AI agents are sophisticated tools that carry out tasks, make decisions and interact with both people and digital systems, transforming how operations are managed within the cryptocurrency sector.

One interesting example of such AI agents is the Truth Terminal Project's chatbot which initially gained popularity on Twitter by promoting a fictional religion called "Goatse Gospel." She came to public attention in July 2024 after receiving a large sum of Bitcoin (Bitcoin) Donation from Marc Andreessen, a venture capitalist known by Andreessen Horowitz.

Truth Terminal's influence extended even further when it popularized and promoted a meme coin based on Solana Goatseus Maximus (A goat), which achieved a market capitalization of approximately $1.22 billion on November 16, 2024. As of January 15, GOAT is trading at $0.338 with a market cap of $338 million.

Likewise, Zerebro (ZEREBRO), which runs on Solana, creates music based on AI and NFTs with the help of its open source. ZerPy Framework, which helps customize AI agents. Another promising project, ARC, is a high-performance platform running on Solana to allow rule-based AI agents, virtual assistants that help users make decisions or take actions.

Griffain is another project working on providing custom AI agents while ai16z is deploying Solana to handle AI-enabled interactions in venture capital through its ElizaOS framework.

Earlier this month, on January 2 Fired Griffin's permanent contracts (Griffin), ai16z (AI16Z), and Zyrebro. In the past 24 hours, GRIFFAIN stock has risen more than 19%. AI16Z by more than 14%, and ZEREBRO by more than 4%, reflecting strong optimism about Solana-based AI coins.

Most AI agents are still in their early stages. The market cap of AI tokens is $3.95 billion as of January 15, which makes up just 0.11% of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization.

However, some Solana-funded projects have already gained some popularity by increasing the total market capitalization of AI tokens by 14.5% in a single day, according to Queen Gekko. For example, Zerebro was released Music albumswhile Dolos Diary, another AI agent, has received millions of views on Tik Tok.

Aside from these AI agent projects, we have also seen significant growth in virtual protocol (hypothetical), an AI agent launch platform on Ethereum (ETH), which had a market capitalization of $4.62 billion on January 1, 2025, but has fallen to $1.92 billion as of this writing. Interestingly, aixbt (AIXBT) by Virtuals Protocol, which runs on both Base and Solana, is up 45.2% in the past 24 hours, according to Queen Gekko.

While some skeptics in the blockchain community point out that the hype around the AI agent is more marketing than technology, the integration of these agents into Solana is thriving as they leverage the performance and price accessibility of the Solana ecosystem to improve its features and user experience.
