Starknet today unveiled its dedicated compilation chain technology stack, SN Stack. It was the first project Excited In a July 2023 blog post.

SN Stack provides developers the ability to create validity backlog chains with custom parameters such as block times and sizes, using proven Starknet components such as Starknet OS, CairoVM, or the Blockifier execution engine.

Developers can choose to use Madara, an open source modular framework for quickly developing app chains, or Dojo, a framework more suitable for building on-chain game applications. Starknet application chains will also be able to take advantage of StarkWare's serializer infrastructure, which will be open source in the future.

“From now, projects will be able to build application chains using the gold standard ZK-STARK cryptography with ease and at a low cost that was only possible with optimistic compilations,” said Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder and CEO of StarkWare.

ZK-STARKs are considered as Improved version than zk-SNARKs because they do not rely on a reliable initial setting, even though the STARK proof sizes are larger.

For cross-chain interoperability, there is a proof-based interoperability solution in the pipeline that leverages the upcoming open source Starknet installer creature (Stark Two), a Starknet spokesperson told Blockworks.

Ironya permanent exchange, is the only existing version built on the SN Stack today.

A short history of cumulative stacks

In 2020, Ethereum embarked on a value pool-centric roadmap that sought to offload implementation to L2 chains for scalability. This provided an incentive for assembly teams to develop their own custom assembly technology stacks, attracting assembly chain developers and organizing a gated ecosystem.

Optimism was the first of the match. Optimism's OP Stack was officially introduced in late 2022 and launched in early 2023. In 2023, the launch of Arbitrum's "OP Stack" followed.Orbit“Then Zksync ZK Stack.

Last month also saw the announcement of 'Commonware'Anti frame"Stacked by former Ava Labs VP of Engineering Patrick O'Grady. Shared software promises a more modular and less locked-in architecture than the aforementioned stacks.

As with open source tools, Optimism as an initiative has largely paid off. Based on L2Beat, OP Stack is the most widely used stack with at least 50 accumulator chains and Validium chains built in on its own technologyincluded Kraken inkAnd Coinbase is up and coming Unishin.

This network effect provides optimism with a lucrative monetization opportunity. For example, Optimism offers the pooling option to enter into a revenue sharing agreement that shares 2.5% of sequencer revenue or 15% of transaction fee profits (whichever is higher).

While Starknet has not yet defined a monetization model for the SN Stack, the team has confirmed that details will be announced in the future.
